"Trick" (as he is known to his friends and his customers)hails from the area of Earth formerly known as the United Kingdom.

His father was Betazoid, his mother Human. Both civilians with no interest in ever working with Starfleet. He was raised on Earth with varying degrees of wealth depending on the luck of his father who was a professional gambler.

With the distaste for gambling on Earth, Trick's father made his fortunes (or lost them) on other worlds, leaving Trick and his mother to feast or starve on Earth without the benefit of his company. Patrick grew up to be the 'man of the house' and the only joy in his mother's life.

His mother Sarah raised him with human values and cultural directives. She often would smile and ruffle his prematurely gray hair and insist that he looked like one of those famous silver screen idols she adored from Earth's twentieth century. What were their names? Cary? George?

Trick came to expect trouble to follow his father home whenever he did bother to visit Earth. The only interest the man ever showed in his son was when he got older, he wanted him to follow in his footsteps as a gambler.

As a result of trying to please his father, Trick knows everything there is to know about gaming and cheating at them. He found though that after years of pursuing money this way that he much preferred to live his life in the role of legitimate businessman.

While planning on leaving Earth after his mother's death when he was twenty-seven, Trick encountered a young Scot called Angus MacDougal.

MacDougal, a fry cook who wanted something better for his future, liked Patrick immediately. The two of them pooled their resources, left the planet and began to open up small restaurants in various locations around the Alpha Quadrant. Gus cooked and Trick would bring in the clientele with his natural charm and keep them coming back for more.

The level of excellence of these eateries had gone up and up over the years and by the time the two were in their forties and running a five-star establishment on Betazed, they began feeling bored and trapped by being so tied down.

Deciding to cash out at the top of their game, they went off to seek women, adventure and travel among the stars.

Trick and Angus joined the population of the USS Independence and took their dining room in hand for the year of 2387, completely renovating it and preparing it for a permanent, long-term manager to take over. When it came time for the choice to be made as to who should stay to run the place, Angus opted to stay, while Trick decided it was time to move on.

Trick's natural empathic abilities and the fact that he "comes from a long line of extremely charming men," according to his paternal grandmother) only add to the mystery that surrounds him.

Time will tell the tale as to whether or not he can be trusted. Wherever his real talents might lie, you can always be sure that he'll greet you with a smile, a wink, and an "Evenin', Love," if you're female.

Trick is the consummate gentleman's gentleman.
